The Fantastic Blooms series serves as a caricature of overconsumption and pollution. It draws inspiration from anthropologist Philippe Descola’s exploration of the human/non-human dichotomy, Anna Tsing’s multi-species anthropology, forest ethno-ecologies, and the visionary fictions of Ursula K. Le Guin. These influences shape sculptures that reflect on the impact of both natural and human-induced devastation of the vegetal world.

Despite the seriousness of its inspirations and subject matter, Fantastic Blooms incorporates a playful nod to popular comic culture, with its abundance of hybrids and supernatural powers. This whimsical series contemplates the mysteries of nature in the face of human intervention and explores the potential for sustainable symbiosis.
